"Doesn't my paint have to be perfect before applying Poorboy's SuperHydrophobic Ceramic Coating?"
The answer to that is both yes and no! (Hey, did you expect anything different from us???
Yes, the paint surface should be PERFECTLY CLEAN! This is easily accomplished with a combination of using Iron Remover first when washing and then followed up with detailing clay with clay lube. Strip Down is also great for removing previously applied wax or sealant layers. So the goal is remove iron contamination, remove bonded contaminants like overspray or tree sap and remove previously applied products. Use Surface Prep Spray, or diluted IPA and distilled water, to ensure that all traces of product are removed from the surface.
In my opinion, doing this type of decon isn't exclusive to applying SuperHydrophobic Ceramic Coating. This is how I clean the paint even before applying a paste wax!
Once the paint is clean and free of contaminants, it is ready for coating application... or is it?
What about swirls and micro marring?
Once the paint is clean and decontaminated, it is up to you to determine what level of correction the surface you will be coating needs and adjust that with your expectations.
Do you need to do a 100% flawless correction? Absolutely if you plan to trophy at a Concours D'elegance! Do you need to do a 100% flawless correction for daily trips to work or will 75-80% paint correction be good enough? You will have to answer that.
Keep in mind that paint correction usually removes a small amount of the very paint that you intend to protect and that some light swirls may possibly be filled to some degree when applying a coating.
Whether you decide to do no paint correction, light paint correction or multi-step cutting, polishing and finishing in pursuit of perfection, it's all up to you to decide how perfect your surface is prior to applying SuperHydrophobic Ceramic Coating from Poorboy's World.
When you are ready to get your paint perfectly clean, this kit has all of the answers for the best Ceramic Series Experience!
